Hi everyone,

Today is November 14, 2014 and I am now exactly 4 months to the day or 123 days post-op.

I feel like now things are finally starting to happen. New hairs are growing in and they are starting to blend in with the transplanted area that is still pretty red. If you look at my three month update compared with this one, my gosh, what a difference!

A week ago I got my second haircut since the day of surgery and today’s photos are a good measuring stick for what my face and scalp it will look like once all of the new hair grows in.

The new hairline is still very short so while new hair is coming in, it’s strange styling my hair from my old hairline.

One thing I’ve noticed over the past month is that whenever I scratch or massage my scalp, sometimes these hard, sand-like zit things get caught under my fingernail and sometimes they have hairs. I was told by my surgeon that because it was very hard, it was an old graft from the day of my surgery that never fell out but I didn’t lose the hair follicle as they are securely in place by the 10th day post-op.

I also had a huge zit on the right side of my frontal hairline that popped out a lot of pus and a small single hair but I was told that ingrown hairs are normal and I don’t have to worry about losing a hair follicle as they have all long healed by now.

These small, hard, zit-like things came from three different parts of my scalp. The top and bottom ones came from behind my frontal hairline, while the middle one came from my suture line. I surprisingly have a had a ton of these come out, especially on the suture line, over the past month.

This multiple follicular unit came out like a hard, piece of sand when I was scratching an itch on the top of my head last month.

At first I was concerned that I may have lost this slit graft as it had a lot of hair that came out, but Dr. Huebner told me that because it was so hard it was a dried up graft and it only takes a few follicular cells to remain to grow new hair.

3 Month Update (94 Days Post-Op)

Hello everyone,

Today is October 16, 2014 and I am now three months and two days or 94 days post-op.

Not much has changed since my last update however I have noticed that more ingrown hairs are developing on the top of my head where many of the multiple follicular units were placed. This is a sign that more hairs are starting to wake up and sprout.

My skin is still pink in the transplanted areas and the hairs are getting long but looking patchy.

This is normal for the three-month mark and in the next two months is when the hair will really start coming in and thickening up.

Over the weekend I visited my sister, brother-in-law, and my parents and it wasn’t until we were standing side-by-side in the sun that my dad noticed my pink scalp and new hairs sprouting. I didn’t plan on telling my family until more hair grew in but they figured it out and were really impressed with the suture line and are also looking forward to my final results.

2 Month Update (71 Days Post-Op)

Hello everyone,

Today is September 23, 2014 and I am now two months and 9 days or 71 days post-op.

More hairs are sprouting in the frontal hairline and temporal peaks but they look very wispy and don’t have much density yet. Some of the original hairs that were moved the day of the surgery never fell out and are super long now.

I’ve heard that if you have super long transplanted hairs that did not shed and have stopped growing, you can pluck them out and the follicle will restart and grow again. I haven’t tried this yet, but if some of the original hairs haven’t grown much over the next month I will consider doing this.

The transplanted area is still pink but is becoming less noticeable from when I first started.

Since my surgery I’ve had one haircut and about 10 ingrown hairs mostly in the recreated frontal hairline and a few on the suture line itself. The suture line is becoming less red and unless I run my fingers through my hair, you wouldn’t find it.

I’ll keep updating this as more hair grows so check back for my next update at 3 months post-op.

First Haircut Since Surgery (46 Days Post-Op)

Hello everyone,

Today is August 29 and I am now one month and two weeks or 46 days post-op.

I got my first haircut today since my surgery, and below are some pictures.

I normally get a No. 4 on the back and sides and then I have the top and front blended in with scissors.

My scalp where the frontal hairline and temporal peaks were recreated is still a bit pink like I have a sunburn and some of the original hairs that didn’t shed are quite long while many of the micro hairs and two-hair grafts are sprouting.

The suture line is still really red but it blends in with the rest of the back of my scalp. Unless you knew what you were looking for, you couldn’t find my suture line by simply looking at my head.

My first hair cut since the surgery shows how much I really hated my old hairline and how excited I am for all of the new hair to grow in over the next few months.

When it comes to a hair transplant, you’re always waiting.

You’re waiting to have the surgery. You’re sitting in a chair during the surgery. You’re waiting for the crusts to come off and the sutures to be removed, and then you’re waiting for all of the hair to grow in.

It’s a process that takes quite a long time, but I know it’ll all be worth it.

1 Month Update (31 Days Post-Op)

Hello everyone,

Today is August 14 and I am exactly one month or 31 days post-op from my surgery.

Surprisingly, I have a lot of hairs from the original grafts still in and some one-hair micrografts have started to grow as well.

My scalp where the grafts were transplanted is a little pink and looks like I have a sunburn, but I don’t think anyone would notice it unless I point it out. I’ve had two ingrown hairs in the transplanted area since my surgery and they haven’t been a problem. I still feel a little numb in the top of my scalp where many of the larger, slit grafts were placed but I was told that some numbness and redness can last a few months after surgery.

The suture line is healing well and I am back to my normal routine of working out, riding my bike, and playing sports and there is no tightness in the suture line.

I haven’t had a haircut since my surgery as the scalp next to the suture line that was shaved but not excised is growing, so I will wait until the trimmed hair around the suture line is a decent length so my haircut will blend everything in.

What my suture line looks like

For those who are curious about what my suture line looks like, here are several photos from various points when I had the sutures in and what the suture line looks like as of this post. Right now the suture line is a little red but it will heal over the next year until it camouflages into a white trace line just like a crease in my hair.

Day of the surgery (7-14-14). In the third photo, notice how far the suture line goes all the way past my ear on both sides:

One week with the sutures in (7-21-14):

10 days post op right before suture removal (7-24-14):

In all, I had about 40-some odd sutures in the back of my head

Four weeks (8-04-14):

Today (one month and three days, 8-17-14). Notice how over time, the suture line has become more difficult to find:
